How I Make My Prospector Mix PayDirt

I caught my case of "Gold Fever" several years ago. Because I was a small business owner, with three girls in college (one in Law School and one soon to start Med School) and living in Southern Georgia, which is not within easy driving distance to any gold region, I turned to buying concentrates through the mail to satisfy my addiction. I tried just about every source I could find (eBay, internet sites, magazine advertisements). I soon discovered that the consistency of these "gold concentrates" and the quantity of gold found was all over the place. In most cases, the gold found per dollar spent was not very good. Even one of the leading sellers of pay dirt was charging, on average, about $2,000 per ounce for the gold recovered from their best selling bags. But to be fair, their concentrates were not the worst. Far from it.

There were some whose ratio would work out to be as much as $5000 per ounce for the gold found in their panning concentrates.

Now, don't get me wrong. I am in this to make a profit also. But I want this to be an enjoyable and fair experience, and as such, I have set down the following guide lines for my concentrates:

  1. Offer a PayDirt that has a fair profit margin built into it.
  2. Offer a PayDirt that is consistent in its quality.
  3. Offer a PayDirt that is fun to pan (not too much black sands or big rocks).
  4. Offer a PayDirt that gives a chance for the customer to actually recover more gold, in value, than the purchase price.
  5. Offer a PayDirt that will give you some of the same anticipation you would get if you were panning in a good pay streak in the Motherlode of California.
  6. Offer a product that will bring the customer back again and again.

The other thing I noticed was that none of the sellers were offering concentrates with gold from more than one of the major gold producing areas of the world. It was always just one region, usually from the area they were from.

With all the above in mind, this is what you may expect from my PayDirt:

  1. You will be able to buy PayDirt from different gold producing areas of the world. You will be surprised just how different gold is from one region to another. I want to be your one stop shopping site for gold panning concentrates.
  2. You will get a PayDirt that is consistent. I have a consistent method for mixing my concentrates. (Don't be fooled by statements such as: 'straight from my dredge (dry washer, high banker, etc). All of these concentrates have been prepared in one way or another. The difference is that I will explain just how I do it, along with the ratios of gold to dirt. This way there will be no surprises and you will get a PayDirt you will be able to depend on to be fair.
  3. Add other interesting items to the material, such as silver beads or natural silver nuggets, polished gemstones (tiger eye, amethyst, peridot, turquoise, jade, etc), collectible coins, and even some tiny faceted gemstones, including rubies and diamonds, that has been removed from jewelry that I buy in my shop as scrap gold.
  4. Offer a frequent buyer program that rewards my loyal customers.

Below is exactly how my Prospector Mix PayDirt Concentrates is prepared:

  1. I begin with a five gallon bucket of dirt that was once gold bearing ore. The average weight of one of these buckets is around sixty pounds. I then mix in a total of two ounces of gold made up of fines and small gold nuggets. Some of them will be big enough to rattle the pan; up to around 1.5 gram in weight each.
  2. I will also mix in small polished stones and semi precious gem stones (such as tiger eye, onyx, amethyst, etc.), tiny faceted diamonds and other small faceted or polished gems (rubies, garnets, opals, emeralds, sapphires, etc.), between one to ten points in size, collectible coins, and maybe a surprise or two that I have laying around.
  3. I will then mix in two to three larger nuggets, which will have a combined weight of approximately 6 grams.
  4. After it is all well mixed, I will then scoop it out as it comes and weigh it into the appropriate size bag.
  5. Before I seal the bag, I will add a pinch of gold (usually a small nugget included) to each and every bag so there will absolutely be gold in every bag I sell.

As you can see from the above, not only am I mixing into the five gallon bucket over $2,600 worth of gold at today's spot price (over $1,100 per ounce as I write this), but am also adding other things of value. After I sell the entire bucket of PayDirt, and deduct any credit card charges I lose when I get payment that way (their charges average over 3% of the amount charged), I will end up with a profit of around $200 per five gallon bucket.

The important thing is that you have a chance to pan out more gold, in value, than you pay for the bags. Imagine the anticipation you will get as you pan my PayDirt. It is conceivable that you could get both of the large nuggets in a single 1 pound bag, plus all the other gold that will be in it also. At $40 per gram, the large nuggets alone would be worth around $240.

As an added bonus, I will be keeping track of your orders. Once you have ordered a total of twenty pounds of concentrates (all types of my Prospecting Mix PayDirt are totaled together to determine the total weight bought) or twenty grams of gold that are mixed in a Custom Mix PayDirt bag, or any combination, I will include a free one ounce .999 fine silver Prospector round medallion to the shipment that gets you to that level.

And as an added bonus, for each and every twenty (20) pounds of Prospector Mix PayDirt or twenty (20) grams of gold mixed in my Custom Mix PayDirt Cons, or any combination, you will receive one entry into my annual drawing for a one ounce Gold Nugget. The next drawing will be held on July 4th, 2010. There is no limit to the number of entries you can qualify to receive. So the more you buy, the better chance you have to win. And YES, my eBay auctions count toward an entry too.
